3-Days Training Workshop in EM Technology

Effective Microorganisms (EM) is a symbiotic culture of microorganisms sourced from
nature and human food (lactobacilli, yeast, and phototrophic bacteria). These organisms
are not genetically modified, they are safe to handle and harmless to human health,
harmless even if accidentally swallowed. EM technology has proven successful in
agriculture, waste management, public hygiene and environmental rehabilitation in
almost 150 countries.

Eco-Pro has been promoting EM technology successfully for the last ten years, in
agriculture, animal husbandry, aquaculture, sewage and effluent treatment, and
solid waste management (SWM). We have been instrumental in initiating solid waste
management and sanitation-related activities in collaboration with district administration
and governmental offices, town panchayats, the DRDA, UNICEF and various NGOs and

This training workshop is meant to impart basic understanding and technical know-
how in EM technology, and to share our experience in its use. It will include lectures,
demonstrations, presentations, films, and site visits in Auroville.

The course will be conducted in English. The program of the first day will focus on agricultural uses of EM, and the programs of the second and third day will address all non-agricultural EM uses. The course will also include brief introductions to ecosan (ecological sanitation) and to decentralized wastewater treatment systems (dewats).

Auroville Universal Township, situated in the Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu, has been
employing sustainable practices since its inception in 1968. The Auroville community
has experimented with various methods and technologies for many years in the areas
of organic faming, reforestation, renewable energy, construction, hygiene/sanitation,
and wastewater recycling. In the field of farming and gardening Auroville is following
ecological principles.

Organizational details of the workshop

Course timings (possible example):
Day 1, 09.30 hrs: registration; 10.00 – 17.30 hrs: training.  
Day 2, 09.00 – 17.30 hrs.
Day 3, 09.00 – 17.00 hrs.

As the course will be conducted in English, bilingual assistance (English/Tamil) can only be given for some essential technical terms.
The course is limited to 25 participants.
Participants are responsible for their travel to and from Auroville.
Participants are responsible for their boarding & lodging at Auroville or Puducherry.
Our office can give assistance in finding appropriate hotels and guest houses.
Please do not bring along small children to the training program.

Course fees for all three days: Rs. 2,500 per participant.
Course fees include transport for site visits during the training course, information materials in print and on CD, and snacks and lunch meals.

Advance payment of the course fees will be regarded as a valid application. Your payment should reach us latest one week prior to the workshop.   • Auroville is situated in Villupuram District, 150km south of Chennai (Madras) and
    about 10km north of Puducherry.
  • Regular bus services are available from Chennai to Puducherry.
  • Travel from Chennai train station or airport costs approximately Rs. 1600/- by taxi.
  • From Puducherry to Auroville one can take an auto-rickshaw (Rs. 100/-) or taxi (Rs. 180/-) to CSR, which is located behind (north of) the Auroville centre, the Matrimandir, often called “the globe”.
  • From Puducherry to Auroville either take the NH 45 (Tindivanam Road) and turn right at the sign board that says Auroville, or take the East Coast Road and watch out for the village Periyamudaliarchavadi in which you will find the diversion to the left to Kuilapalayam and further to Auroville.
